Meet Our Principal
Yasmeen Leal - Principal
As a proud first-generation college graduate and one of the first in her family to leave home, Yasmeen Leal brings a deep personal passion for education and equity to her role as principal. Her life experiences and leadership journey have shaped a strong belief that every child deserves access to excellence—and that belief drives her leadership at John W. Runyon Elementary, where she has proudly served as principal since January 2025.
Leal first found her calling in education while earning a bachelor's degree in Practical Theology from Christ for the Nations Institute, where her dedication to service and student success took root. She later earned a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Dallas Baptist University and joined the Pathways to Teaching program, solidifying her commitment to educational equity.
With over seven years in education, Leal has worked across a wide range of departments and student populations, including math, science, social studies, electives, SPED, 504, and LPAC. She began her career at W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy as a social studies teacher and Lead Instructional Teacher. It was at Greiner that her passion for school-wide impact grew, leading her to earn a master's degree in Urban Educational Leadership from Southern Methodist University through the Aspiring Leaders program.
Leal went on to serve as an assistant principal at W.H. Gaston Middle School, where she supported emergent bilingual and English language learners, and later at Seagoville High School, where she helped strengthen accountability systems and academic rigor.
Now, as principal of John W. Runyon Elementary, Principal Leal is honored to lead a diverse and dynamic school community. Her vision is grounded in academic excellence, inclusive partnerships, and building a strong foundation where every student is empowered to rise.
